Abstract
African American ethnicity is a well-known risk factor for multiple myeloma, a heterogenous hematologic malignancy with variable survival outcomes related to cytogenic risk factors. This literature review explores several disparities in social determinants of health that may face African American patients, including overall access to healthcare, access to academic vs. community hematologists, time to diagnosis, treatment options received, and access to clinical trials while highlighting progress towards potential solutions for more equitable care and early successes.
