Description
Background
- Problem: Patients receiving chemotherapy for their cancer are often overwhelmed with the stresses of their new diagnoses and other coexistent medical issues may be forgotten or ignored. In the event dysglycemia or diabetes appears during the course of chemotherapy it may difficult for these patients to obtain care in a timely fashion and early literature suggests that dysglycemia may decrease the efficacy of chemotherapy
- Aim: Our goal was a protocol designed to ensure adequate euglycemia in patients at the Oncology Infusion Center (OIC) to eliminate insulin treatment guesswork for hyperglycemia, allow timely care with endocrinology specialists, and create a pathway which was least disruptive to the timing of patient's chemotherapy regimens
