Abstract
This Forum presentation will present and discuss Drs. Mohammadreza Hojat, Vittorio Maio and Mr. Louis’ research on Empathy in Patient Care, and examine what is patient empathy, can it be measured and does empathy influence patient outcomes? This forum presentation will offer a definition of empathy in the context of patient care and its key ingredients. Differences between empathy and sympathy and their outcomes in patient care will be discussed from a research perspective. Approaches to enhancing empathy will also be explored.
This cutting-edge research by Jefferson faculty has been widely publicized and featured in the Wall Street Journal, NY Times as well as the Huffington Post.
