Abstract

Objectives:

Gain familiarity with recent DSM-V terminology changes regarding somatic symptoms

Recognize the clinical presentation and epidemiological prevalence of somatic symptom disorder

Identify screening tools available to physicians

Learn applicable treatment and physician management strategies

Understand the context of somatic symptoms in primary care medicine and normalize physician attitudes towards medically unexplained symptoms
