- UTI's are the most common type of healthcare acquired infections
- Most common cause of secondary bloodstream infections
- Most important risk factors for UTI: presence of a catheter, duration of catheterization
- Risk of developing bacteriuria: 3-7% daily
- UTI Risk: 0.3% per catheter day
- ICU's: 3-5 times higher than in other patient care areas
