Abstract

Facts about CAUTI's

• UTI's are the most common type of healthcare acquired infections
• Most common cause of secondary bloodstream infections
• Most important risk factors for UTI: presence of a catheter, duration of catheterization
• Risk of developing bacteriuria: 3-7% daily
• UTI Risk: 0.3% per catheter day
• ICU's: 3-5 times higher than in other patient care areas
