Abstract

At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

1. Review risk factors for and guidelines suggesting methods to prevent VTE in hospitalized patients
2. Explain how a systems approach can improve prescription of VTE prophylaxis
3. Examine the impact of surveillance bias on public reporting of DVT rates
4. Discuss adopting missed VTE prophylaxis doses as a quality improvement target
