Jefferson’s Scleroderma Center offers a unique level of clinical focus on this prevalent and debilitating disease, as well as on Raynaud’s disease and related disorders. The Center, staffed by physicians who are world leaders in their field, treats a large patient group with both established medical therapies and experimental treatments. The Center coordinates the expert evaluation and management of various organ systems that may be affected by Scleroderma. The Center also coordinates the performance of numerous clinical and basic science research projects funded by the National Institutes of Health, The Scleroderma Federation, the Arthritis Foundation, and other organizations aimed at discovering the cause of Scleroderma and of effective treatments. As part of a concentration of connective-tissue experts at the University, the Scleroderma Center staff members collaborate with researchers in Jefferson’s Departments of Dermatology, Pathology, Immunology, and Biochemistry and Molecular Pathology, and are part of the multidisciplinary Jefferson Institute of Molecular Medicine.
