Abstract
Adverse events in healthcare including hospital acquired infections (HAIs) adversely affect patient outcomes and add considerable additional cost to patient care. Catheter acquired urinary tract infections (CAUTI) are one of the most common HAIs impacting patient care. Urine culture stewardship programs are a novel approach to reducing the rate of CAUTIs in the hospital setting. This project demonstrates the effectiveness of implementing a urine culture stewardship program in the ICU to reduce the rate of CAUTI by reducing inappropriate urine culturing.
