Description

Objectives:

Evaluate the tool Mimycx for use in advancing interprofessional education and practice.

Analyze the kind of learning that can be offered through the use of online interactive tools.

Workshop:

This workshop provides time for attendees to interact with the developers of Mimycx, an interactive educational tool, for interprofessional education. In order to adopt new technologies faculty need to have opportunities for hands on experience. Mimycx is a massive multiplayer online tool for students to interact with one another in environments that promote team work, creative thinking and problem solving. The interactions, and activity of the learner are recorded for faculty to view through a faculty portal. Interprofessional education is a requirement in the standards for most health professions education. It is difficult to find times, and access to programs for live interaction all in one place. Mimycx is available as one mechanism to fill that gap for engaging students from across multiple colleges of one University or across many different colleges and universities. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the tool, and work together in teams during the workshop.

Agenda:

1-20 min.

Introduction

Background

Educational Research

20-45 Interaction with tool and each other within the “quests”

45-60 Questions and discussion

All participants will need a laptop and will need to access a log on prior to the workshop to download program components before coming to the workshop.

Online tools provide the opportunity for students to practice and try out new ideas in a safe setting. By participating in this workshop faculty members who have not had exposure to these online tools will have a safe environment to work together and ask questions of each other and the developers. Advancing interprofessional education and practice in environments that are safe for learners is important as faculty prepare for their own new roles of providing more personalized education opportunities.
