Abstract
Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death, for both men and women in the US. The societal impact and burden of this disease is a major concern to clinicians, advocates, and policy experts. Dr. Gardner, President of the American Heart Association (AHA) describes these issues and offers an overview of the history, role, and mission of the AHA.
