1944 (January) graduate of Jefferson Medical College. Caption reads, "San Diego, Cal., Jan. 23 - Operation at sea saves sailor's life. Robert W. Wagner (right), Chief Mechinist's Mate, of (2847 West 27th) Brooklyn, N.Y., receives well-wishes from his ship's skipper, Lt. Richard C. Young of (253 Broadway) Newport, R. I., at the U.S. Naval Hospital here where he is recovering from an emergency two-hour operation performed at sea aboard a small Navy transport by Lt. (JG) John D. Allen (center) of Moylan, PA. The dramatic operation to remove Wagner's ruptured appendix came during Lt. Allen's first major cruise as a Navy doctor, and was performed while the vessel rolled vigorously in a heavy sea.
