Description

1828 graduate of Jefferson Medical College. Professor of Surgery, Jefferson Medical College, 1856-1882. Inscription reads, "This photograph of Dr. Samuel D. Gross was presented by him to Miss Henrietta Thomas, about 1864. The Thomas family were friends and patients of Dr. Gross, having known him when they lived in Louisville, Kentucky and Dr. Gross was Professor of Surgery in the University of Louisville. Both families moved to Phila. The Thomas family in 1853, Dr. Gross in 1856. Miss Thomas married Charles H. Burr. This picture was given to Warren B. Davis in 1925."
