Abstract
Learning Objectives:
- Understand "what's new" the 2013 lipid guidelines
- Be familiar with some of the evidence to support fixed dose treatment and the lack of data to support current treatment strategies
- Identify the 4 statin benefit groups
- Feel comfortable using the newly developed Pooled Cohort Equations for estimating 10-year ASCVD (AtheroSclerotic Cardio-Vascular Disease) risk
- Know how to measure response to therapy
- Feel comfortable managing drug safety concerns
- Be aware of the limitations and some criticisms of the guideline
- Ultimately, better counsel your patient about lipid treatment recommendations
