At the end of this lecture, the listener will:

• Understand the epidemiology of autism in the USA
• Review the diagnostic criteria based on the DSM-IV and DSM-V
• Be familiar with the guidelines for autism screening
• Understand the use of the M-CHAT and M-CHAT-R/F for screening
• Know when and where to refer patients who screen positive
