Abstract

Objectives:

• Discuss the pathophysiology of G6PD deficiency
• Understand the diagnosis of G6PD deficiency
• Review the most common morbidities of G6PD deficiencies
• Recognize precipatating exposures for hemolytic anemia events
• Review anticipatory guidance for patients and their families

This Lecture will NOT COVER:

• G6PD deficiency and associations with cardiovascular disease
• Alternative screening tests used in resource-poor settings
• Debates around universal vs targeted screening
• Implications for malaria treatment
• Chronic non-spherocytic hemolytic anemia (Class | G6PD deficiency)
