Speaker Biography

Dr. McNicholas is a Philadelphia native who graduated with honors from Chestnut Hill College. She received her medical degree cum laude from Jefferson Medical College. Her internship and residency training took place at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, and included a six month position at the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, London. Her thoracic and cardiac training and chief residency followed at Columbia and she returned to Great Ormond Street as Senior Registrar. Following her return from London, she joined the pediatric surgery section at the Deborah Hospital and was later named the Section Chief.

Dr. McNicholas accepted the opportunity to work with Dr. Gerald Lemole and start the first cardiac surgery program in Delaware where she headed the congenital heart surgery program. From 1986 to 2008 she was the Attending Cardiac Surgery at Christiana Care Health System (CCHS), Director of Pediatric CV Surgery, and Associate Chief of Section of Cardiac Surgery. In 2008 she left clinical practice and became the Medical Director of Performance Improvement for CCHS. She completed a Fellowship in Patient Safety and is certified by the College of Medical Quality.

She holds numerous fellowships and has received many awards. She participates in numerous societies and founded a program “No Heart Left Behind”. She sits on the Boards of Widener University, Christiana Care Health System, Widener Law School, Mom’s House, and others. Her greatest joy and accomplishments are her family. Her only hobby is the law, and she holds JD and LLM degrees both with honors.
