Abstract

We are honored to present this latest edition of The Medicine Forum. This platform is in its twenty-seventh year serving as an outlet for our medical community’s scholarly and creative efforts. This year, it has been my pleasure to work with Nehar, Jasmine, Hamzah, and Allison on this project. It has been impressive to see them balance their efforts on this scholarly work with their efforts on the wards.

As a Department, we are a productive group of writers, thinkers, scientists, and artists, who send out our work for publication in the larger medical community. What makes The Medicine Forum special is that it serves as an outlet that keeps us connected as a local community. There is something powerful about opening a journal and seeing names that belong to many faces we pass in the Jefferson halls every day. The Medicine Forum serves as a reminder of the depth of talent possessed by the physician-scientists and artists with whom we share our day-to-day work lives.

This year our resident editors embarked on a collaboration with the Resident Research Committee. To see one of the results of that collaboration, I hope you will note the new "Letters to the Editor,” which serve as commentary on and reviews of recently published clinical trials.

We owe our gratitude to a number of people who have helped bring this issue to publication. We thank the Department of Medicine leadership for their guidance and support. We extend thanks to all the residents, students, and faculty who submitted their work. We express our gratitude to Timothy Flanagan for his design and editorial support. Finally, we thank the readers of this journal for turning the page and becoming a participant in this community.
