Abstract
Mitral annular disjunction is a structural abnormality where there is a separation of the mitral valve annulus and left atrial wall. We present a case of cardiac arrest in a young patient with known mitral valve prolapse that was now found to have mitral annular disjunction due to myxomatous mitral valve disease. This case highlights the importance of finding the etiology of cardiac arrest, which in this case, is myxomatous mitral valve disease causing mitral annular disjunction. It also highlights the importance of secondary prevention of sudden cardiac death with defibrillator placement in these patients.
