At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant should be able to:

1. Understand the molecular pathogenesis of postoperative infections
2. Understand the mechanisms by which intestinal bacteria cause SSIs and anastomotic leak
3. Understand the role of the microbiome sequencing in elucidating the molecular pathogenesis of postoperative infections
