Abstract

History

• 1967: Dr. Arnold Beisser published an article about sports psychiatry (considered the "first")
• 1987: Dr. J.H. Rick Massimino is first credited with introducing the term "sport psychiatry" into the medical literature
• 1992: Dr. Daniel Begel published the article "An Overview of Sport Psychiatry"
• 1994: International Society of Sports Psychiatry founded
• 2019: IOC release a consensus statement on mental health in athletes
• 2021: IOC published their mental health toolkit
