Dr. Andrea Adams is a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellow at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Adams was a Chief Medical Resident from July 2008- June 2009 at Albert Einstein Medical Center (AEMC) in Philadelphia, PA and she received her Doctor of Medicine August 2001-May 2005 at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Adams was awarded the Peter Mazzoni PGY-3 Humanism Award at AEMC in 2008. Her interests are in pulmonary and critical care medicine.

Abstract

Overall Goals and Objectives:

1. To understand ATS guidelines on interpreting spirometry, lung volumes, and DLCO.

2. To debate the pros and cons of plethysmography versus nitrogen wash out in assessing lung volumes.

3. To discuss the utility of FEV/FVC vs. FEV1/FEV3 and FEV1/FEV6 in characterizing obstructive and restrictive lung disease.

4. Critically analyze parameters for diffusion of carbon monoxide and understand their clinical significance.
