Abstract

There has been a significant amount of research to better understand international differences in healthcare spending. Most of the previous research, however, has focused on the wealthiest markets, which tend to have more robust and reliable data available. This paper extends on the previous work done for the industrialized markets and applies the analysis to all markets to better understand if the relationships found in previous literature hold when analyzing middle and low income markets. While the overall results are generally consistent with previous research, assessing the information by income group significant differences appear, and highlights further work required to understand the healthcare spending dynamics in low-income countries.
