Abstract

Learning Objectives

• Understand the definition and staging of CKD and ESRD
• Recognize the high prevalence of CKD and ESRD
• Know when to refer to Nephrology
• Appreciate the option of replacement therapy and conservative care
• Recognize the high symptom burden and poor quality of life with ESRD
• Be able to manage the various symptoms in ESRD
• Understand the prognosis for patients who are withholding dialysis or withdrawing from dialysis
• Be more comfortable addressing goals of care with ESRD patients
