Appalachia continues to grapple with adverse socioeconomic conditions and there is an "association between areas with more adverse socioeconomic conditions and adverse health outcomes"
Appalachian residents suffer excess mortality from all causes of death (except breast cancer) as compared to the non-Appalachian US Population.
